How do I edit MEP elements in ArchiCAD without the add-on loaded?

If a project created in an MEP environment is reopened using ArchiCAD only (without MEP Modeler), the MEP objects are available, although locked for editing. If you wish to edit or move these elements, you must first unlock them individually (Edit > Locking > Unlock). Their MEP connection information is lost once you have edited them in a non-MEP Modeler environment and they behave as plain GDL objects in ArchiCAD.

How do I convert standard ArchiCAD elements into MEP elements?

If an ArchiCAD project is opened (using File > Open) in an MEP Modeler environment, then the GDL objects that are MEP-compatible will be automatically “smartened up” to include MEP Custom Settings and connection parameters. Their connection parameters can be used to include these objects as part of an MEP route. Adjacent MEP objects with connected hotspots are automatically connected (provided that the connection geometries are compatible).

There are some objects in the MEP environment without connection parameters – how do I convert these?

It could be that some elements in a teamwork file, or elements pasted into a file with the MEP add-on from a file without the add-on loaded, will not be automatically converted. These can be converted using the “convert objects to MEP elements” button in the MEP Preferences.

How do you control an MEP license on an ArchiCAD network key?

There is an option in the MEP Preferences that will control whether MEP will be enabled. Check the option to enable MEP modeling automatically to statr MEP Modeler whenever ArchiCAD is opened, providing a licence is available.

If the option is not checked, MEP will not be enabled when ArchiCAD is started, even if a licence is available.

If ArchiCAD is started without MEP, a licence can be enabled manually in the Licence Information dialog.

How do I update MEP?

The MEP add-on is part of the standard ArchiCAD package and will be updated by the ArchiCAD Hotfixes.

I have removed the MEP add-on - why do I now get an error message?

The MEP add-on is part of the basic installation and ArchiCAD will not start without it. If MEP is no longer required on a computer, it should be uninstalled from the Control Panel, or by using the uninstaller in the Graphisoft\ArchiCAD #\Uninstall.MEP folder.

How do you control an MEP license on an ArchiCAD network key?

The first person to start ArchiCAD with the MEP add-on loaded will take the MEP licence. The licence will not be taken by users without the add-on loaded so to control who will access the licence in ArchiCAD 12, make sure the add-on is only loaded when needed. The alternative option is to use a separate key for MEP.

Where are the plumbing fixture objects from the object library?

MEP takes control of these elements and they can be accessed through the Equipment tool. If you are not using MEP, removing the add-on will return the objects to the Object tool. (From ArchiCAD 13, these objects are also accessible from the Object tool.)

How do I update MEP?

After installing MEP, running an ArchiCAD Hotfix will also update the MEP add-on. The build number of the add-on must be the same as ArchiCAD's build number. (You can check the build of MEP in the Add-On Manager.)

I am getting an "Archicad (build#) and MEP Modeler (build#) are not compatible" error. What should I do?

This error will be displayed when MEP has been installed, but not updated by a hotfix, so MEP's build number is older than ArchiCAD's build number. If the latest hotfix has not yet been installed then installing this will avoid the error.

If ArchiCAD was updated to the latest build before the installation of MEP, the add-on will be outdated and the ArchiCAD cannot be updated. In this case, MEP must be updated separately. See the following page for information on theMEP Hotfix.
