Introduction

The exchange of building data in ArchiCAD 7.0 is now bi-directional in the construction documentation phase as well. Changes to door or window attributes on the Floor Plan are reflected in lists and vice versa. You can create Door/Window schedules, place them on the Floor Plan and modifications made in the dialog are modified in the project as well. First let's look at another new feature of ArchiCAD 7.0 that helps with the interactive Door/Window schedule, called Element ID Manager. Located in the Calculate menu, it allows you to define sets of criteria. Elements will be divided into groups based on the criteria. The IDs of these groups will be set to predefined formats.

In the above example, we select the width and height values of the Window as our criteria. The result is that ArchiCAD will give the same Element ID to each Window with the same width and height.

Changing the format of the IDs

On the ID Format Tab Page, we set the desired format of the resulting new IDs. Similar-sized Windows will have the IDs 'Win-001', 'Win-002' and so on. After changing IDs, the results of the changes will be shown in a list.

Now, select Calculate/ Door/Window Schedule/ Window Schedule to open its dialog. ArchiCAD will automatically generate the schedule based on the selected Schedule settings.

The settings in our example determine that the schedule will contain for each Window its ID (it is sorted by IDs), quantity, width, height and other values.

Clicking the Edit Settings... button brings up another dialog where all information regarding the schedule is set, including its format, the parameters to be listed, the order in which they must be listed, and text fonts, styles and sizes of the different schedule elements.

Editing the schedule

The columns of the schedule (their width and content) can be graphically edited in the dialog. For example, while pressing the Shift key, you can click on the H and V buttons of the Header and then Shift-click on the header (rectangle with 'Main header' on it as text) to merge them. If you then Ctrl-click on the "merged" text, it becomes editable. Type 'Panes' to change it. You can also automatically adjust cell sizes by double clicking on their border or by dragging their border to the desired width. Clicking the Apply Header to Settings will make these changes permanent for that schedule. Clicking Place on Drawing will place the completed schedule on the Floor Plan.

From the dialog, you can make changes to the list. For example, you can change the width and height values of all three Windows with element ID 'Win-004' from 900x1500 mm to 1200x1500 mm and the number of horizontal and vertical panes from 0x0 to 2x2. After this, click on the Apply Changes button to make these changes permanent (clicking the Close button will not apply the changes) then click on the Update on Drawing button and the content of the schedule placed on the Floor Plan will also be updated.

When working with the interactive Door/Window schedules and the Element ID Manager, you can choose to work with a selection or all such Doors/Windows in the project.
