TechTip of the Month Contest Winner of May, 2003:
Doug Engel's tip on using Teamwork as a single user for alternate backups of project files in ArchiCAD
This is a tip I got from one of my fellow workers - Doug Engel.
You can bypass all of this extra saveas-ing by making your single
person .PLN file into a single person TeamWork file.

First of all, open the project that you are currently working on, then follow these steps (you have to go through all the steps once for each project):
Open the TeamWork menu and choose Share This Project... (see screenshot below)
In the Project Sharing Setup... dialog box choose Open Access... and then click on the Set Key Passwords... button. (see screenshot below)
A new dialog box will pop up as seen below
Here you will have to define the Project Administrator's name (be sure to note it) and password, and also the Team Leader's password (both passwords must be at least two characters long, also make sure to use only passwords that are easy for you to remember!) in a separate little dialog box:
You will have to give each password twice in order to avoid typing errors.Once this is done, in the Project Sharing Setup dialog choose the Backup Options... button to open the Team Project Backup Options dialog.
In the Team Project Backup Options dialog you can select for example to have backup copies of the last 10 modifications of your project:
- or you can choose to have a backup of the project file for the last 10 days:
Or simply just choose to keep all of the backup files or any combination of the above. Now you are ready to share the document; click on the Share button. A dialog will pop up that will ask for the Administrator's password (see screenshot below), just type it in and click OK:
ArchiCAD will now ask for the location and name of the project in the Save Team Project as ArchiCAD TeamWork File dialog. (We suggest creating a separate folder for each of your projects.) Simply save the .PLP file to the desired location.
ArchiCAD will now save the file and open the Sign In dialog. In this dialog choose to sign in as the Team Leader with Exclusive Access, enter your name (you can also use the name chosen for the Project Administrator) and also the Team Leader's previously defined password into the appropriate fields, then try to sign in by clicking on the Sign In button. (See screenshot below)
Hint: You can also leave the password field blank. This will allow faster sign-ins processes later.A small warning will pop up asking whether you would like to be registered now as a new member. Choose yes and you're already signed in.
Now whenever you send your changes (if you chose to create backups after each modification), ArchiCAD will create a new backup PLP file in a new folder in the project file's folder, named e.g. "2003. 06. 25. 18-14-35" (showing the date and time of the backup), that you can easily re-use later if needed by signing into it as described above.
Note that once the project is shared, you can only change the Backup Options by signing in as the Project Administrator.
