• Time-out of background ArchiCAD

On Windows, when Background ArchiCAD is finished generating the Views, it will keep running for a specified amount of time. The reason it is so is because it takes time for background ArchiCAD to start up and read the necessary Project file. By staying loaded, update time can be reduced. As default, it keeps running for 30 minutes. There is a Registry entry by which it is possible to control how long background ArchiCAD will keep running after it finished generating data for PlotMaker.

Here is how to set it:

1. Start the Registry Editor of Windows (Start menu\Run..., then type 'regedit' in the appearing Dialog and click OK).

2. Find the following folder in it: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Graphisoft\PlotMaker\PlotMaker 8.0.0 INT R3\ArchiCAD Support

3. Double-click on the following entry: 'Time-out of ArchiCAD in the background'
4. Type the desired value and click the OK button. The values are given in minutes. E.g., type '10' to reduce this time period to 10 minutes.
5. Exit the Registry Editor.

This means that if within 10 minutes (as in the example) after generating data, there is no other requests coming from PlotMaker for updates in any Project, background ArchiCAD will automatically quit.

Note: if PlotMaker quits before this specified amount of time is up, background ArchiCAD will also quit. By doing this it is possible to prevent copies of background ArchiCAD to keep running unnecessarily and use up system resources.
