The following situation arose: let us say that a user or an office has defined many View Sets, which they plan to use in other ArchiCAD Projects as well. For example, the current Project might have a View Set which defines the Layer Combination and Display Options Settings that are needed when saving a set of drawings to a structural consultant or HVAC consultant in DWG file format. There could also be different View Sets for different consultants resulting in many defined View Sets. This is something that can be used in other Projects when communicating through drawings with the same consultant.
The problem is that ArchiCAD will not keep View Sets defined in a Project when a new Project is started, even when the user selects to keep the latest settings of ArchiCAD. So another way was need to be able to transfer such View Sets from one ArchiCAD Project into another.
There are two possible scenarios:
There are other Projects currently being worked on, in which the same View Sets are needed. The steps to be done are the following:
- Project A is the Project with the defined View Sets. Save this file under a new name. Then unlock all layers and make them all visible.
With the Thick Marquee Tool (All Floors selections method), select the whole area of the Project.
- Delete everything on all stories. The purpose is that you have a completely empty Project.
- Go to Project B (in which you want the same View Sets), make all layers visible and unlocked.
- Select everything on all stories with the Thick Marquee Tool and copy them to the Clipboard.
- Go to Project A and paste all data.
Notes: Make sure the Story Heights of the two Projects are the same so the 3D Model will stay correct. The Layer Combinations of the two Projects should be the same (but should not be a Problem in an office with Office Layer Standards) otherwise, the Layer Combination stored in the View Set might not give the correct result.
The user wants to use The View Sets in future Projects. In such a case, a Template File needs to be created the following way:
- Delete everything in Project A as in steps 2 and 3 above.
- Save this completely empty Project as an ArchiCAD Project Template.
- Start your future Projects based on this Template.
