Offset in Archicad works differently than offset in other programs.
Archicad's offset command uses the two offset buttons on the Control Box Palette. They are "Offset Single" and "Offset Multiple."
These commands allow you to use almost any linear or polygonal tool to offset from another shape. You can offset slabs from walls, lines from roofs, etc.
It is best used in conjunction with the Magic Wand tool to offset existing shapes so you are not re-tracing things you have already drawn.
To use the Offset command:
- Click the tool you want to place new elements with (click walls if you want to draw new walls, etc)
- Press the "Offset" button (or press 'o' on your keyboard)
- Trace or Magic Wand the shape you want to offset
- Notice the location of the reference point, and move your cursor in the direction you want to offset
- Press R (to highlight "relative/radius)
- Type the distance you want to offset
- Press ENTER or RETURN
- If you used Offset Multiple, continue entering distances until you are finished. Be aware that all distances are from the original reference point, not the last item you place. Hit ESC when you are done.
