In previous ArchiCAD (prior to ArchiCAD 8) versions the Gravity feature of the program could be used in the following way: supposing you wanted to place a Wall 0,50 meters above an existing Slab. To achieve this, you went into the Wall Settings Dialog, selected the Gravitate to Slab button, and set the vertical distance of how much you wanted the Reference plane of the Wall below or above the element found for gravity (0,50 meters in our example).

However, placing Gravity buttons in Dialog boxes was contrary to the design philosophy of ArchiCAD, as these options are not strictly related to the Construction Element but control relationship between various element types while creating elements.

So, these buttons were removed from Dialog boxes, starting with ArchiCAD 8. They stayed in the Coordinate Box from where they can be controlled. With this change, however, the possibility to do the above was no longer available.

To achieve the same in ArchiCAD 8, you may first draw the Construction Elements using the Gravity buttons, then use the Elevate command from the Edit menu to move them vertically to their desired location.
